OVERVIEW

Every operational facility stands for unique challenges. Most industrial projects choose epoxy flooring because of its intensive durability properties. Its stain and chemical resistance are other factors. However, it’s getting popular among residential and commercial projects too.

The primary purpose of epoxy is to improve workers’ productivity by supporting their health and safety. A wide variety of epoxy flooring systems gives a solution for that call. In addition, those floors have to last. So, we have performance coatings that withstand light, medium, or heavy-duty forklift traffic.

In short, we have a solution for any situation. If the surface has to meet the highest demands, we will bring the best flooring option for you.

HYGIENE & MAINTENANCE

Epoxy flooring serves excellently in terms of hygiene and durability. In other words, it provides added value for any space. Adding broadcast sand or slip-resistant additives gives additional traction and longevity to the surface. However, those floors are easy to clean and maintain. They resist abrasion, staining, and deterioration from chemicals.

TIME-SAVING

In most cases, we can install epoxy flooring and other resinous systems relatively quickly. An overnight installation reduces the loss of production time. Most importantly, high-performance epoxies are not going to compromise effectiveness or quality.

RESISTANCE

Chemical and stain resistance are other crucial factors. For example, transmission fluids, oil, or gasoline won’t leave any stains. In addition, bleach, harsh solvents, and acids won`t fail epoxy coating. Industries choose easy-to-maintain and straightforward solutions. Our floors are ideally suited for this. Certainly, epoxy floorings are smooth and solid.

COST-EFFECTIVENESS

A wide variety of epoxies, application systems, and techniques create endless possibilities for a customer. Thus, it makes every project unique. Our representatives can find the right solution. It will be cost-effective and will fit your needs.

The Process of APPLICATION

The installation process starts with an evaluation of the concrete slab. First, we need to examine the floor for cracks, spalls, and divots. Then, we check the floor for moisture emissions. At those steps, it’s crucial to evaluate the scope or repair.

Second, we start the preparation process. At this step, we grind concrete to remove the top layer of concrete. Grinding removes dirt, grease, and other contaminants to ensure proper adhesion. At the same time, we start the repairing process. We fill cracks and spalls with epoxy filling compounds. After that, we grind the floor again to level out all patches.

Thirdly, we apply primer. After the priming step, we proceed with the installation of the body coat. Depending on the type of epoxy flooring, there could be several body coats. In addition, those coats may include quarts sand or vinyl flakes. The last step is applying the topcoat. Topcoat creates a hardwearing layer. It also protects the floor from chemical abuse.

EPOXY FLOORING TYPES

Epoxy flooring ranges from mill thick coatings to 1/16”-1/8”. To clarify, the thicker epoxy, the more durable it is. Let’s get into details.

MIL_THICK EPOXY COATINGS

Mill thick coatings are considered light-duty. They can be either water-based or 100% solid. Water-based epoxies are easier to apply, but they wear out quicker. On average, they lose up to 50% of volume once dry. On the other hand, 100% solid epoxies don’t have that issue. They have more chemical and wear resistance. For instance, we recommend such coatings for light traffic areas. Storage rooms, restaurants, or garages are the best candidates. In short, their primary purpose is to make a clean, dust-free surface. The main benefits are fast turnaround and inexpensiveness.

MEDIUM_DUTY EPOXY COATINGS

Medium-duty epoxies range from 3/64” to 1/8”. For instance, such coatings serve as chemical-resistant, hygienic and wear-resistant floorings. To clarify, they include several layers of epoxy. For example, some layers may consist of quartz sand. To explain, quartz sand or graded silica provides extra strength and thickness. As a result, medium-duty epoxy flooring has a wide variety of use.

HEAVY-DUTY COATINGS

In some industries, 1/16-1/8 of thickness is not sufficient. They call for much significant wear and tear resistance. For example, operations that require dragging heavy objects or moving massive loads. Extreme temperatures or heavy chemical abrasion are the signs to choose thick build epoxy coatings too. These epoxies can withstand spills of boiling water and chemicals. In addition, we can install them in freezers too. Epoxy floors can even go beyond the 1/4”. They are called epoxy screeds. These consist of multiple layers that involve sand, aggregates, and topcoats.

While epoxy floorings have a limited abrasion resistance and ability to withstand scratches, polished concrete might be a better option for you. In addition, polished concrete has a limited chemical resistance.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, it is a tricky business to choose the right epoxy flooring. The condition of the substrate is also critical. However, the complex and expensive flooring might cost you an arm and a leg. On the other hand, considering a cheaper alternative may result fail in a matter of days. With this in mind, only professionals can evaluate which type of epoxy fits the project. So, don’t hesitate to call us and get a free consultation.
